The UnShaded Lampshade

I never have enough light in my Art Room/Workshop! I had a ceiling light which was not giving off enough light with the dome like shade. I felt like I was looking through rose-colored glasses. I remembered in my garage I had an old lampshade with the shade torn. I removed the entire shade and just left the shade frame. I thought if I could attach it onto the existing lamp fixture which is already attached to the ceiling, I possibly could make something old new again and pretty. I embellished it with some chandelier crystals, which I acquired over the years, and many flowers and leaves made of silk or paper.

The first few pictures are of a bare shade frame which I added beaded trim to the top rim of it using a glue gun. Then I added on the chandelier crystals with thin wire. Of course I had constant help from our cat, Totoro, who enjoys sitting under the table lamp and watching my every move. I then started wrapping flowers in bunches of three, one large, two small with wire around the bottom of the shade frame evenly spaced. I continued to do this until it was even but not fully covered. Later in the pictures, I then decided to use a few paper roses and wind their long stems around the more barren shade frame. It still needed something: leaves. I started adding leaves with a glue gun to bare areas and to the roses. After looking up at the top of the bare shade where the crystals were, I decided they needed some color – something more, so I added leaves.  I decided not to put too many flowers too close to the open bulbs as they may become too warm.  I was happy with the amount of flowers and leaves added, so I stopped and said it is complete.

If I choose to add more later, I can. For now, I love my new lampshade which gives off so much more light. Those rose-colored glasses I thought I was looking through are not rose colored anymore, but certainly all I see is my new Unshade ~ pretty as a rose.
